Lake Park is undergoing construction for new cafes in the lobbies of both East and West Campus. The Lancer Cafes will be available for students to access a quick snack or drink on the go. This cafe will differ from the cafe in the cafeterias with different options that will include a variety of coffee and snacks.
“The company that owns this is Quest, our food services business. This is something they’ve been offering—satellite cafes,” said West Campus Principal Dr. Alexia Ellett. “The locations were selected because we have a lot of kids here before and after school activities. It allows people to come and get a coffee or grab-and-go snack. The offerings will be different than what the standard cafeteria has.”
Both Lancer Cafes at East and West campus were originally planned to open on the same day. Unfortunately, East Campus requires more construction based on where it will be located.
“With the Lancer Cafe at East, there’s a delay. It might not be set up until next school year, or at the earliest, second semester.” East Campus Principal Dr. Sean Potts said. “We’re looking at options, probably the front lobby area.”
Luckily, Lancer Cafe at West Campus is planned on being open before Halloween.
Lake Park has a vast amount of students that are here before and especially after school activities. Many students forget snacks to bring to keep them fueled throughout the day and the vending machines are not always operating. This enables students to have some sort of snack with them. Lake Park also is arranging a way to have it open as well during the day while minimizing disruption.
“We’re still figuring out how to run it during the day, because we’ve just talked about clearing the hallways, and now this will be open all day,” Dr. Ellett said.
