We are all familiar with the new College and Career Center (CCC). But do we really know what it’s all about?
The CCC was created based on students’ needs. Originally only at West Campus for several years, a new space was added to East Campus to help students start thinking about college sooner. Thanks to the team effort of creating the CCC at both campuses, freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors get a source to help them with the entire topic of college and career planning. The CCC is planning to run informational sessions on various post-secondary planning topics throughout the year.
“These will include sessions on college athletics, the college application process, and how to pay for college just to name a few. We are also planning on having career professionals come in to talk to students who have demonstrated interest in those fields. Those sessions would be the first of their kind in LP history,” said EC College and Career Counselor Mr. Michael Sakiewicz.
The CCC is a great resource for students at LP to go to for information they may need or questions they want to ask about college. Thanks to this new addition to East Campus, Lake Park freshmen and sophomores now get to start their college plans earlier.
“While it is still early in the school year, I think our students are familiar with the space and are aware of the resource. I think it is helping students to start thinking more about planning for their future education/careers,” Mr. Sakiewicz said. “Students are coming in consistently and asking really great questions. Everyone seems to enjoy being in the CCC, and I see the interest in it only growing as the year goes on.”
“Plans for life after high school is a huge part of what we want students to have before they walk across the stage at graduation,” WC College and Career Counselor Ms. Alison Klingler said.
“Unfortunately, planning for life after high school can be confusing, intimidating, and simply not easy. The CCC is a place for all things post-secondary planning so students can receive the support and resources they need.”
The CCC over at West Campus was the first location for the CCC and it has been there for five years already. The CCC is very impactful on the students and helps them plan their life after high school.
“It is inspiring to watch students start confused and lost about their post-secondary path, but after putting in the work in the CCC they come out feeling confident and excited for what is next for them after high school,” Ms. Klingler said.
. Some students may feel scared for what will happen after school but thanks to the CCC, they have support.
The West Campus CCC is planning FAFSA completion nights for seniors and their families, a College of DuPage field trip, ASVAB testing for those interested in the military, College 101 sessions, and our Trades Career Convention and Medical Careers Convention for medical careers that do not require a 4-year degree.
