It’s the start of second semester, which means Lancer Preschool is back in action! After an exciting first semester, the Little Lancers and Leading Lancers are geared up for a very exciting second semester. “I am absolutely thrilled to be welcoming the preschoolers back in for another semester of Lancer Preschool fun!” Ms. Lauren Zalon, lead teacher of the program, said. “There are lots of changes this semester considering we now offer 3 periods of preschool instead of 2. I am excited to see familiar faces, as well as meet some new additions to our class.”
Obviously, a new semester means a lot of work from Leading Lancers to prepare for the preschoolers return to the classroom; from preparing lesson plans, to creating an entirely new schedule to successfully accommodate the new 3-period day, they have been working extremely hard to make the start of the second semester as seamless and exciting as possible.
“I admire the work the teachers have been putting in to make this semester go smoothly. Especially the fourth period teachers. They have had to adjust so much to this new schedule, including adding an active play time or recess, and changing the circle time structure,” Ms. Zalon said. “All the teachers across the board have kept themselves busy making materials, decorating bulletin boards, creating the display case bumblebees, and so much more. I am so proud.”
Leading Lancer Aubrey Steed (LP ’25), is very excited about these changes. “Having 3 periods of class time is so exciting for the preschoolers! Now, we can incorporate even more material into the day; like letter of the day and more targeted learning activities. The adjustment may be difficult at first for some of the preschoolers, but I think they will all have so much fun and learn so much more!”
Parents are also very excited about the extended duration of the preschool day.
“I think it is so great that the students now get almost 3 hours of time in preschool,” Alexzandra Esposito, parent of a Little Lancer, said. “It is so important to me that my daughter gets the most out of her time at school, and I think extending the duration of it allows her to maximize her learning.”
From learning about community helpers to singing songs about the weather and days of the week, the Little Lancers have a fun-filled, educational experience ahead of them this semester.
